On This Day in 1977....

On This Day in 1977....a film was released in theaters that changed the world. Star Wars was released in only 32 theaters nationwide, as studio executives had no faith in the movie with weird aliens, robots, and a big dog. Star Wars quickly became a worldwide phenomenon that is still going strong today, 44 years later.

So begins a cultural phenomenon!

So begins a cultural phenomenon!

Where and when did you first see Star Wars? For me (Justin) I saw it in theaters in Phoenix, AZ sometime in the summer of 1977 when I was four, maybe five years old (as my birthday is in the summer). I remember being so awestruck and loved the movie and wanted to see it again and again. While I did see it more than once, I don’t remember how many times total. I later got the action figures and ships and I was hooked for the rest of my life.

For Marc, he was born in the ‘80’s, when Return of the Jedi was in theaters, so he didn’t get the chance to see it in theaters. But as his older brothers were big fans, he was able to see the Star Wars trilogy over and over again on VHS as a young kid, which is an experience I didn’t get to have.

So which is better? Seeing it in theaters for the first time when it was initially released, or growing up with it and watching it multiple times on home video? There are positives to both sides, either way seemed to be effective and just as enthralling..
