DC Films are about to explode!

DC Films are about to explode!

While this was recently announced, it’s not a surprise if you’ve been paying attention. While for 2021 there will be just one currently announced DC film released with The Suicide Squad, there are plans for three movies already for 2022 with The Batman, The Flash, and Aquaman 2. Shazam: Fury of the Gods is set for 2023, and Black Adam is also lurking in the background for a release around 2023, as it is still in pre-production with The Rock working out like crazy to prepare for the role. Also, Wonder Woman 3 was recently greenlit to be fast tracked for production, which could end up being released late 2022. There is also the Batgirl film that has been announced a couple of years ago, but is still in pre-production mode. There have been rumors of a Static Shock film as well.

As of this moment, there are plenty of films to move forward with for the next 2-3 years and in the meantime plan and produce more DC film content (A Henry Cavill Man of Steel 2 film please!)

For HBO Max streaming shows, there have been plenty of announcements as well. The new Justice League Dark series, Stargirl Season 2, Titans Season 3, Doom Patrol Season 3, Green Lantern Corps have all been talked about the last few months. As well as a Gotham PD series that will tie in directly with The Batman. I believe DC will use HBO Max to release theatrical spin-offs and tie-ins as a way to continue telling great DC stories.

I’ve always advocated for a major studio or franchise to create a ‘verse of one gigantic big story that crosses movies, TV, novels, and comics for one epic and multifaceted overall story. Disney+ is moving in this direction with Star Wars and Marvel, HBO Max and WB/DC needs to move forward with this as well to stay in the game.

As a big DC fan, the next 3 years+ look to be very promising, and hopefully it is a springboard to a grander and richer storytelling experience.
