The Prologue serves as a good set up and reminder of where our heroes were the last time we saw them. Superman has just been killed by Doomsday in order to save humanity while Lois Lane, Wonder Woman, and Batman look on. Superman’s death scream is powerful and sends out shockwaves which in turn wake up the Motherboxes now that the Kryptonian is dead. Superman was the only thing standing in the way of an Apokolyptic invasion. We follow the sound waves across the Earth and they lead us to the Motherboxes. One is in the care of Men and in the hands of Cyborg, another is with the Atlanteans with Mera guarding it, and another is under heavy guard with the Amazonians. Each of them awake and start to make noise, but the one with the Amazonians ends up having a crack in the protective case surrounding the box. This lets the signal out into the stars (as Lex Luthor would say).

We then cut to a cold and snowy place where we see Bruce Wayne making his way to a remote village on a horse. All of this is visually stunning, but is ultimately a vehicle to show the opening credits of the movie. Once Bruce arrives at the village, the story really begins when we see the title card, PART ONE: “DON’T COUNT ON IT, BATMAN”.

The Prologue does a great job of reminding us where we left off and setting that ominous tone that Superman is dead, now what do we do? It reminds us that Bruce Wayne is motivated to get things back on track, which we saw at the end of Dawn of Justice, as well as the end credit scene from Suicide Squad when Bruce met with Amanda Waller to get more info on the metahumans. We are also introduced to the Motherboxes and where they are and who has them. The story of the Motherboxes are revealed later in the film, but this is a good intro to them.
